The ADHD assessment will require two to three sessions.
Initial consultation
In a one-hour session, a detailed psychiatric history will be taken, and your needs, concerns, and expectations will be discussed. This will determine if you should proceed with the ADHD assessment.
Please bring or forward any past performance reports from school and previous reports from psychology, speech therapy, occupational therapy, or doctors.
The assessment will also gather information from people who know you in various settings (home, school, work, etc.).

Important Information on ADHD Assessment and Treatment Costs and Outcomes
-
Assessment and treatment for ADHD can be expensive, involving several sessions and ongoing urine drug tests.
-
Existing ADHD Diagnosis: Even if you have been previously assessed and diagnosed with ADHD by a paediatrician, psychiatrist, general practitioner, or psychologist, this diagnosis will not be directly accepted. Dr. Yeshwant will not assume your care or continue stimulant prescriptions without conducting his own comprehensive assessment. He will review all past evidence, including tests, history, treatment, and reports, and may repeat some tests before confirming a diagnosis and continuing medication. Please bring all previous reports to the clinic for your initial consultation.
-
There is no guarantee of receiving an ADHD diagnosis following an assessment. Additionally, starting stimulant medication at the conclusion of the first session is not assured, as the assessment process may require two to three sessions. Factors such as clinical presentation, past psychiatric history, and history of substance use will influence the medication prescribed, if any.
-
The assessment will strictly adhere to the diagnostic criteria outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5). A diagnosis will only be provided if the necessary criteria are met.
-
During the assessment period, you must cease using regular alcohol, cannabis and other illicit drugs and agree to random urine drug screenings. If these screenings indicate substance use while on stimulant medication, the assessment may be discontinued.
-
Not all individuals diagnosed with ADHD require stimulant prescriptions. Should medications be initiated, follow-up appointments will be necessary to monitor efficacy and side effects, including regular urine drug screenings. Be aware of the associated costs of drug testing.
-
You must agree to abstain from illicit substances during treatment and comply with regular drug testing. If urine drug screens indicate substance use while on stimulant medication, the prescription will be terminated.
-
Some individuals may require further in-depth assessments and psychometric testing to obtain a diagnosis.
-
In certain cases, even after an ADHD diagnosis has been established, the diagnosis may change later based on new information or additional clinical observations.
